Son Of The Night

(Steve Robinson)
Midnight he was born ‘neath a blood red moon
A cold wind was moaning outside that room
The devil was just waiting cause he could tell
That this boy was meant for trouble and raisin’ hell

He don’t cast no shadow in the light of day
Even dogs start howling when he walks their way
Whiskey and drugs don’t bring no relief
Jesus says he loves him but he just don’t believe

He’s the Son of the Night – child of the gale
With a legion of demons dogging his trail
He’s got no middle he blows hot or cold
There’s a breakin’ in his heart and an achin’ in his soul

Mama always wondered if she’d done all she could
And she tried to give him comfort but it did no good
They say his papa loved him more than he could say
They knew he’d keep them crying till their dying day

He’s the Son of the Night – child of the gale
With a legion of demons dogging his trail
A walking contradiction, he’s up and he’s down
The only time he’s still is when he hits the ground

He ain’t no fortune teller but if he could
Even knowin’ what was comin’ wouldn’t do no good
With a darkness inside that won’t see the light
Just another lonely wanderer lost in the night

He’s the Son of the Night – child of the gale
With a legion of demons hot on his trail
He can hear them baying and they’re gaining fast
And he’ll keep on runnin’ till he breathes his last
